For the last 17 centuries the story of Split, ever since the Roman emperor Diocletian decided to look on the peninsula near the large Roman town of Salona build the palace in which he will in the peace spent the last years of his life. In these 1700 years palace is slowly grew and became a town, which today lures rich tradition, glorious history, the beauty of the natural and cultural heritage.
 
Walking through the ancient city it is possible to travel through time, to observe the superb examples of ancient architecture such as the Peristyle, medieval Romanesque churches and Gothic palaces, Renaissance portals of noble houses, Baroque facades, all the way to modern architecture remarkably integrated into the rich heritage.
 
Split is much more than a magnificent architectural scenery. It is a city where it is possible to enjoy the superb gastronomy and wines, find numerous cultural events such as film and theater festivals, exhibitions, world-class museums and concerts, a city that offers fun of the many clubs and bars across the street events to festivals such as Ultra Europe.
 
When you get tired of city noise, there is Marjan,  symbol of the city, with its forests, trails for running, hiking, cycling and recreational fields, and ancient churches in which the old Split sought spiritual peace. There are also beaches, for a city the size of Split unusually numerous and clear sea, from the famous sandy Bačvice to stone isolated oasis around the entire Marjan.
